The Reinert Center for Teaching Excellence
presents
Saint Louis University's
International Educators Institute

July 9 through July 20, 2012

Saint Louis, Missouri, USA

The Saint Louis University International Educators Institute brings together educators from across the globe interested in learning about the United States' educational practices in order to engage in a multi-national conversation on teaching and learning, and to inform the ways in which we prepare students for study in the United States. Participants will finish the Institute with a formative portfolio of teaching materials and will be named a Scholar in American Pedagogy.

Core objectives for the Institute include:

  • Identify and analyze different learning and teaching styles and their cultural contexts.
  • Design a discipline-specific course with appropriative instructional methodology and measurable learning objectives.
  • Enhance fundamental classroom teaching skills, including lecture, managing discussions, and other collaborative active learning techniques.
  • Identify and integrate different uses of technology and learning.
  • Enhance their English language skills through participation and or formal instruction.

In order to achieve the above objectives, the two-week intensive program includes sessions on topics such as American Educational Values and Goals for Education, Introduction to Course Design, Leading Small Group Discussions, and Interactive Technologies; collaborative and individual workshop time, and classroom visits. Participants will also experience several cultural sites and events around the St. Louis metropolitan area to enhance the learning and community involvement components of the program.

Proficiency in written and spoken American English is required for all programming in the Institute.

Registration information and a program will soon be available on this website.
